The Fugl-Meyer Assessment for upper extremity (FMA-UE) has been tested extensively, and is found to have excellent psychometric properties. It is considered to assess the body function according to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF).

The upper-extremity portion of the Fugl-Meyer Scale (UE-FM) is one of the most established and commonly used outcome measures in stroke rehabilitative trials. The Fugl-Meyer Upper Extremity Assessment will be the primary outcome to determine the efficacy of the technology for UE motor control recovery. This is a performance-based measure of UE impairment The Fugl-Meyer Assessment upper limb section is used extensively in stroke rehabilitation research and yet many clinicians appear to be unfamiliar with this measure. Furthermore, the original description of the content, procedure and scoring of the Fugl-Meyer Assessment upper limb section is ambiguous. The maximum possible score in Fugl-Meyer scale is 226, which corresponds to full sensory-motor recovery. The minimal clinically important difference of Fugl-Meyer assessment scale is 6 for lower limb in chronic stroke and 9-10 for upper limb in sub-acute stroke. The Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA) is a stroke-specific, performance-based impairment index.

Balance: ranges from 0 to 14 points. Divided into 6 points for sitting and 8 points for standing.

The Fugl- Meyer Assessment (FMA) is a quantitative measure that is widely used to assess motor recovery post-stroke in hemiplegic patients. It involves the measurement of both upper and lower extremities (UE, LE) however, the scores for UE are weighted more. The UE portion assesses voluntary movement, reflex activity, grasp and coordination.
